Vince Niemczyk

Niemczyk Plant Co

Products:
Bedding Plants, Cut Flowers

Vince Niemczyk of Niemczyk’s Plants is a second generation grower with the St. Paul Farmers’ Market. His father was a vegetable farmer back in the late 1930’s with his main crop at the time being celery. He proudly supplied the Applebaum Food Stores in the area with fresh produce. The original farm was located near Jackson & Arlington Streets but when the land was bought by the City he relocated the family to Hugo. He continued to farm there until the early 1960’s when he took a well deserved break. In 1980 he decided to get back into the business of growing. This time it wasn’t vegetables, but flowers.

It was at this time that Vince decided to pick up where his dad left off and continue to farm vegetables. When Vince was only a sophomore in high school he became a member of the St. Paul Farmers’ Market. After selling his vegetables for a few years he also made the switch to flowers. At that time he had one greenhouse of his own that was about 6000 square feet.

In 1990 Vince married Peggy Sue. The two of them have worked very hard over the years and have maintained a sense of humor to get them through the ups and downs of farming. They take great pride in providing quality plants for their customers. Today they have 26,000 square feet of greenhouse space and four kids who keep life interesting.

Vince has been on the Board of Directors of the St. Paul Farmers’ Market for the past 12 years. He has put in many volunteer hours to help make the St. Paul market the best it can be. You can find Vince each week during the flower season at the Downtown Saturday and Sunday markets. He also sells his flowers at our Aldrich Arena market in Maplewood on Wednesday mornings, and our St. Luke’s market on the corner of Summit and Lexington on Friday afternoons.
