Ron Costa

Costa Farms & Greenhouse

Products:
Bedding Plants, Herbs, Beans, Cucumbers, Melons, Peppers, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes

Ron grew up on a farm with his family in Little Canada. His father, Pete, sold the produce he raised at the St. Paul Farmers' Market when it was at 19th and Jackson Streets back in 1917.  Pete is now 76.  He and his son Ron are farming together near Stillwater and still sell at the St. Paul Farmers’ Market. Together they grow flowers and hanging baskets for spring sales, then follow with asparagus. Main specialty crops include kale, tomatoes, peppers, sweet corn, squash and eggplant. Pete says their product speak for itself in freshness (2000 miles fresher than supermarket products) as well as the quality. The St. Paul Farmers’ Market continues to be an important part of the family’s livelihood as it has been for three generations. Among their many memories at the market one stands out above the rest.   A hail storm hit their tomato crop and with quick thinking Ron and Karin were able to salvage most of the crop by making salsa and bottling it for sale at the Market.
